Scott Freebass fell in love with hip hop and house music at a very young age. Growing up on Chicago's south side during the 1980's, he recalls listening to his older brother's tape collection (remember tapes?) and memorizing verses from the hip hop legends of yester-year. His love for the music progressed to DJing, when he submitted his first mix CD for a chance to compete in a DJ competition at the famous Smartbar nightclub. Out of hundreds of entries, Scott was among the 8 djs who were chosed to compete, and it's been on ever since. After a 5-year stint at the Universilty of Illinois in Champaign (yes, he graduated), Scott continued spinning at many of Chicago's famous nightclubs including Vision, Sonoteque, Subterranean, and Tini Martini. In 2003, he also linked up with producer and DJ D. Moon to form the two man production outift known as the SoundProphets. The duo quickly became sought after beatsmiths in Chicago's thriving underground hip hop community. On the production side Scott Freebass has crafted underground hits for a growing roster of artists, including Killa Kat (Loud Records finalist), V.I.R.U., and Kev Turner. He's also not afraid to step up to the mic, having dropped hot 16's on a handful of the Soundprophets' past singles. The fittingly titled "Frantic Meditation," an instrumental journey through his diverse range of sounds, is Scott Freebass' latest release and first solo effort. Having composed, mixed, and mastered the entire release himself, one can clearly see why his brand of beats will soon become a staple in the music diet of both hip hop and electronic enthusiasts alike. |
